Just got back from the US Open in NYC – where I saw Agassi and Capriati play. One thing I noticed when I went into the main stadium there was that the people taking tickets at the turnstiles were using Palm devices with built in bar-code scanners and Wi-Fi connections – pretty high tech even for the USTA! The trick is when you buy a ticket online you have to print it out yourself on your home printer. Each ticket has a unique bar code which is scanned by the ticketing people as you enter and sent to a main database. This way they can make sure each printed ticket is unique and save themselves some cash by printing less tickets.. not sure if that is true, but I liked the implementation.
