Guy Marsden, a British-born artist/engineer based in California, has been creating some interesting art and tech hybrids. His Photogenesis project, involves tree-like sculptures with fading street lamps on top (pictured) that might depict a merging of urban infrastructure and its natural surroundings. Some of his other electronic artwork includes a series of Digital Number Relevators, and my favorite, the 8-bit Ant Farm which features a video camera tracking ants and actuated ping pong balls that jump up and down when movement is captured. Check out how it was constructed! These projects, especially the tree light, are good examples of hacking public space that demonstates technology’s every growing impact on the immeditate urban and natural landscapes.
