While in Gent, we went to the S.M.A.K. museum where they had on display Antwerp-based artist, Panamarenko’s giant mettalic hovercraft vehicle – “BXL” (pictured above ). His work, which also includes some futuristic cars challenges accepted notions of vehicles and their construction. Although apparently none of his machines actually worked, their design aesthetic and influence on existing robotic art projects is inseperable. I really liked how ‘outer space’ this ship looks – it reminded me a bit of Mariko Mori’s “Wave UFO”. I wonder who’s ship would win in an intergalactic space battle.
