Message in a Bottle is an interesting GPS mapping project by UK-based artist Lalya Curtis. The idea was to release several bottles with simple GPS tracking devices on May 25th from the south east coast of England with messages intended for people in the Chatham Islands in the South Pacific Ocean, 800km east of mainland New Zealand ( the exact opposite side of the globe from their point of departure). The website has a form for people to report found bottles and check out a real-time GPS drawing of the bottle’s paths. So far, a few bottles have been picked up and recast into the sea. There’s more info with tons of pictures and tech info on the site of the GPSS tracking software developer’s site. Interesting to see if they actually make it to their destinations.
