Since I’ve been back home (the US) I’ve noticed how much paper is consumed on a daily basis and how nothing can be accomplished without it. From junk mail to bills to faxing documents, without paper, it seems we are lost over here. Robert Johnson’s article “The Fax Machine: Technology that Refuses to Die” is a nice overview of the current problem with paper. These were things that were supposed to be killed off with email, computers, and even phone calls! Microsoft even saw it coming in 1999 but how many other things have they gotten wrong! I would have to agree that the paperless society is a myth!. So when this happens, and trees dont have to be replanted to publish the next issue of J14 Magazine (truly sad), then maybe we will be getting somewhere. In the meantime, I’m going to try and stick to paperless the best I can.
