The Simple.Tech show at Sheppard Fine Arts Gallery at University of Nevada, Reno, is an homage to the low-tech approach of media art creation. I showed a project called “Drawbots” which is a simple drawing robot made of magic markers and plastic cups that demonstrates how interesting, and sometimes complex, drawings can be produced from everyday materials. Another interesting project was Koto Ezawa’s “Home Video” which is ” a short, looping animation created from a time-lapse image of a typical suburban tract home as day turns to night. The animation was drawn, frame by frame, using a photograph of a house taken from a real estate magazine.” Elegant and obvious, simple.tech is a nice show of how low-tech oftens wins out over “progress”.
